A few years ago, I came up with a Holiday sparkling cocktail for my wine bar. Every year since then, between Thanksgiving and New Years, its my drink of choice. You start with a small chunk of crystallized ginger in a champagne flute. Add 1/2 ounce of ginger infused Cointreau followed by six ounces of Cava. Top the whole affair off with a spoonful of pomegranate seeds and – this is where the fun starts – the crystalized ginger kicks up the bubbles from the cava and the pomegranate seeds actually dance, bobbing up to the surface and then diving down to the bottom of the glass. Its a golden bubbly red baubled concoction that can’t help but make the Grinchiest among us feel festive….and its oh so delicious if I do say so myself. You will be surprised how quickly they go down!
While I have served these drinks and shared the recipe with friends and clients over the years, I’ve never been able to come up with an appropriate name. Suddenly, Saturday night, halfway through a made for Lifetime Christmas movie marathon (yes, that’s how I spent my Saturday night) And halfway through my second bottle of Cava (and again – yes, that’s how I spent my Saturday night). The name for my drink finally came to me – The Ho Ho Ho. It’s festive and whimsical (cocktails like people should not take themselves too seriously).
So it’s Christmas Eve and I’m pre-gaming with a couple of Ho Ho Ho’s. No telling what they will lead to (probably more Lifetime Christmas movies)
